de Bijenkorf is one of Holland’s largest department store chains. Our first commission was to create a new design for their ski and sportswear department in the The Hague.

Two curved entrance walls form a backdrop for male and female mannequins. These ‘shop-windows’ are further enhanced by large-scale black and white lifestyle imagery promoting the message that sportswear is now as likely to be worn while walking the dog as it is climbing a mountain.

The central line of columns that split the department has been cleverly used to carry the bulk of the accessories range. Each column is lit from an oversized, high level, cylindrical light box that also carries 360&Mac251; black and white imagery.

To accommodate bulky ski wear, each changing room consists of a 1250mm diameter cylinder opening onto a communal area. The new design had a dramatic effect on turnover, with year on year sales up 50% in the first twelve months of operation.
